TDC’s photo exhibition winners to tour Brighton & Hove
Our photo competition with the theme of ‘Celebrating Diverse Communities’ saw many fantastic entries focusing on the various groups and organisations that TDC works with across Brighton & Hove, Portslade and Peacehaven. The different photos depict a wide range of diversity: young women, physical disability, learning disability, LGBT Pride, neurodiversity, community activity and older people.
Ten photos were shortlisted and the winners were announced at our AGM in October.
The winner in the under 18 category was Macyalbion Mechen, who is from an all-girl dance group ‘Tantrum’ based in the Queen’s Park area, Macyalbion said….
“This photo was taken by me, at the community dance group my Mum runs at The Edge. I took the photo to show diversity and equality as no two people at the dance group are the same, yet they all belong to a community…although we don’t all live close together, we are all in a dance community and everyone loves it. Including me.”
The winner of 26-54 age category was ‘The Hangleton & Knoll Multicultural Women’s Group’
“Our photo shows us getting together to demonstrate that equality for us means…..celebrating and involving women from all cultures and backgrounds and sharing , understanding and supporting women to be proud of who they are.”
The 26-54 age group was won by ‘Sarah Watson
“This is the Carousel Singers band. They are an inclusive band where people with and without learning disabilities make music together. They look just like any other band doing their photo shoot”
The winner of the 55 years and over category was Robin Berry
“This photo was taken at the Coldean Community Allotment and equality to me means giving everyone an equal opportunity to enjoy the things that many of us take for granted. To engage with other people, enjoy the fresh air, learn new skills and be part of the community. With the help of our volunteers everyone can use this space and share the produce”.
The TDC ‘Celebrating Diverse Communities’ exhibition including the four winners and six runners up will be touring in a variety of community and public spaces around the Brighton & Hove area in the coming months. More information about where you can see the exhibition will be posted here shortly.
