Thursday 25th September saw the culmination of a year’s project, when the Trust for Developing Communities launched its new toolkit guide for community groups and voluntary organisations who want to become more Dementia Friendly.
The project was commissioned by Brighton & Hove Council and the Clinical Commissioning Group and involved people with dementia and memory loss and their carers from the very beginning.
Workshops were then held with local community groups, such as The St George’s Hall Lunch Club, and voluntary organisations, such as, Care Co-ops, and participating groups designed action plans setting out ways they could become more dementia friendly. They then put these plans into operation and produced case studies which have been incorporated into the guide.
The launch brought all these people together in an information and launch event; also attending were Brighton & Hove buses who publicised their new Helping Hand Cards to help people who have various disabilities and support needs. Copies of the Guide were snapped up and we are now looking at ways to fund a second print run.
In the meantime a PDF version of the Guide is available here: A Dementia-Friendly Guide for Community Groups 2014
