This year, Wild Park has had a big year turning 100 years old with a lot of projects to celebrate: a new Rainscape, a community orchard and a new adventure play area for older kids in the area added to its profile.
More than 100 people from local communities city-wide came along on Sunday, 21st September to learn more about the Rainscape and celebrate Wild Park, as a local gem. The event was run by the Friends of Wild Park – a collaboration of local residents, groups and organisations invested in Wild Park projects – organised the meeting with support and funding from Mackley, who built the rainscape. People came along to tour the new shallow ponds, learn how to juice apples and sign up to become a tree guardian for the orchard, learn about the park’s past and try their hand at nature-inspired arts & crafts with Wild Park Wonder Club.
The rainscape is a sustainable drainage solution for A27 run off to purify polluted water before it goes into our city’s aquifer. More information here (https://www.brighton-hove.gov.uk/environment/how-we-protect-our-environment/wild-park-rainscape)
Over the years interested parties have come together to champion the rainscape project, and the outcome is a strong partnership and this celebration event organised by local community members, Wild Park Wonder Club, the Brighton Permaculture Trust, Brighton & Hove Flood Risk – City Infrastructure and Brighton & Hove City Parks as well as Trust for Developing Communities.
