Climate for Communities in Hollingdean

We would like to take this opportunity to update everyone on how the Climate for Communities Project is progressing.

We began with an Introductory survey on people’s feelings about Climate Change & also how people felt about living in Hollingdean – this question was used to create a Word Cloud and was the most interesting part of the survey as it was clear we had lots to celebrate in our community!

This led to an event at Hollingdean Community Centre on May 30th with a focus on ‘Celebrate what we have & what could be’. We had local groups: BHESCO, Brighton Borrowers, Brightstore, Growing Hollingdean, Hollingdean Repair Cafe & Tech Take Back with info stalls, food and free plants, plus opportunities to get involved as a volunteer. We also had local artist Karen Tilley making giant newspaper pom poms to take away and an ‘Imagination Station’ to share ideas for the future. We showed an inspiring film – ‘Together We Grow’ in the small room & Sussex Surplus provided an amazing lunch. About 80 people came along from a very diverse range of backgrounds, abilities & ages and the Mayor, Theresa Fowler Came for lunch too. The atmosphere was fantastic! Below are some images of the day in action

Ideas generated from the day were: ‘More community events like this!’, How to grow courses in local community gardens, Film nights/weekends with surplus food meals, Children’s film matinees, More wildflower areas, trees & insect hotels, Better buses / Community Transport, Re-shape, reuse clothes, sewing courses & sewing club, Community Cooking, Jumble Sale, Xmas Fair, Neutral Meditation & Mindful walks, Baby morning & Community Food Gardens.

If anyone is interested in exploring these ideas please get in touch via Hollclime@hotmail.com

Keep an eye out for future events like this one!
